I've been on the road this past while…….2 weeks ago in Toronto, last week in New York, this month in Thunder Bay and off to Montreal in August!  I love my life!

I was in New York to meet with my Business Coach/Mentor, Fabienne Fredrickson and my master mind group.  That's us in the photo!  Very dynamic group of individuals from all around the United States……and ……me…..from Canada!  We had some amazing discussions about business so stay tuned for details concerning new products and services that I will have available for you over the summer.

Then, to balance things out, I spent time visiting with my good friends, Kate and Tony.  Tony took this picture of me and Kate in his convertible, as we toured the Larchmont area.  Beautiful, to say the least!  I love my friends!

I do travel a fair bit and now I am getting ready for my 3rd tour around the world on a private plane (in October).  Have you ever thought about doing this?  Do you believe it's possible for you?  In the last 2 issues we discussed 2 of the major barriers to living a happy life: Habits and Attitudes.  In this issue, we will discuss the 3rd major barrier: Beliefs.

Steps2happiness -- Barriers to Living a Happy Life (Part 3)

In this series, I have referenced the 4 major barriers to living a happy life.  The first major barrier is Habits (you can get a copy of that issue by visiting my website at www.steps2happiness.com).  In the last issue, we examined the second major barrier – attitudes!  Today, we will discuss the 3rd major barrier: Beliefs!

Remember my question at the beginning of this e-zine?  Have you ever thought about traveling around the world, in a private plane, no less?  When I first saw the flyer for this trip, a few years ago, my immediate thought was "I wonder who the rich people are who take this kind of trip?"  I certainly didn't think it was something for ME to consider.  I didn't believe such an adventure would be possible for me.  Well, I did take the trip – twice.

When you think about what's possible for your life, what are your core beliefs?  Here's a little story I'd like to share with you (some food for thought!):

A man found an eagle's egg and put it in a nest of a barnyard hen.  The eaglet hatched with the brood of chicks and grew up with them.

All his life, the eagle did what the barnyard chicks did, thinking he was a barnyard chicken.  He scratched the earth for worms and insects.  He clucked and cackled.  And he would thrash his wings and fly a few feet into the air.

Years passed and the eagle grew very old.  One day he saw a magnificent bird above him in the cloudless sky.  It glided in graceful majesty among the powerful wind currents, with scarcely a beat of its strong golden wings.

The old eagle looked up in awe.  "Who's that?" he asked.

"That's the eagle…..the king of the birds," said his neighbor.  "He belongs to the sky.  We belong to the earth – we're chickens." 

So, the eagle lived and died a chicken, for that is what he believed he was!

Beliefs are a powerful thing!  You can change your beliefs by changing your self-talk (more on that in a future issue).  But you also need to be aware of the people you surround yourself with!

Remember the words of the good witch, Glenda, in The Wizard of Oz: "You always had it in you!"

On that happy note, remember my motto: "If it's to be, it's up to me!"  No one else is responsible for your happiness!

Steps2happiness assignment:

  1. Plan some quiet time, sit down and for a period of 5 minutes (put the egg-timer on), I want you to make a list of all the things you want to do, see, try, experience before you die. Yes, all of them! Keep this list handy (mine is on the bulletin board in my kitchen and, no, I don't care who sees it when they come to visit!) so you can add to it when additional ideas come to mind.

  2. Review the list and, with a colored highlighter, pick out the items that you would like to move to the top of the list -- things you would like to consider first.

  3. I want you to take a deep breath and write down one great, big, scary, audacious goal -- something, deep down, you've always wanted to do or try! Write it out on an index card (a nice, bright, neon-colored card!), date it and post it/carry it somewhere for just you to see and read. Take some action on making this happen!

My intentions!

I HAVE A DREAM………ACTUALLY, I HAVE A GOAL!

I have set some very lofty business goals for myself for the next 6 months of this year. One of them includes growing the subscriber list for this e-zine and I could use your help.

I have set the goal to have 5,000 subscribers by my birthday, August 16th.
